The INN8 Journey: Can you share a bit about your journey at INN8? How did you start, and what has been the most exciting part of your experience so far?
My journey at INN8 began in June this year when I joined as a Specialist Investment Consultant (SIC), bringing with me experience from my previous role at another asset management company. The most exciting part of my experience so far has been learning about and embracing the company’s cutting-edge digital platform. It has been fascinating to witness firsthand how the company’s commitment to innovation is shaping the investment landscape.
Day in the Life: What does a typical day look like for you as a SIC at INN8? Any interesting or challenging moments that stand out?
A typical day for me involves visiting financial advisers at their offices to discuss potential clients they may have, providing platform training, conducting book report analysis to identify new opportunities for my advisers, and addressing any queries or concerns. My days are often unpredictable, requiring me to be adaptable as meetings can take unexpected turns, which keeps my role exciting and challenging. As an SIC, my goal is to provide support to our financial advisers, helping them better serve their clients.
Key Learnings: In your role, what are the key skills or insights you've gained that have been crucial for success in business development at INN8?
During my time in business development, I have gained valuable insights and skills that are crucial for success in this field. One key lesson is the importance of adaptability and the ability to think on your feet. As mentioned earlier, no two meetings are ever the same, and being able to pivot and respond to unexpected questions or concerns is essential. Another critical skill I have developed is the ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely. Finally, I have learned the value of building strong relationships and trust with our financial advisers. This involves being responsive to their needs and consistently delivering on our services.
Favorite Project: Could you share a project or client interaction that you found particularly rewarding or memorable? What made it stand out?
One of my favourite adviser interactions was with an adviser who was initially reluctant to learn more about our platform. I analysed his client book report and used the insights I gained to secure our first meeting. This gave me the opportunity to introduce him to INN8 and explain how it was built specifically for advisers. He later admitted that he wished he had given the platform a chance earlier, as it addresses most of his pain points. This interaction stood out to me because of the complete 360-degree shift in his attitude towards INN8.
Client Connections: Building relationships with clients is a crucial aspect of business development. Can you share a story about a client interaction that taught you something valuable or left a lasting impression?
That would be when I had a meeting with a seasoned financial adviser who initially had no interest in learning about INN8 because, to him, it was just another platform. During our meeting, he shared many of his negative experiences with other platforms and assumed we wouldn’t be able to cater to his needs. I took a step back, listened attentively to his concerns, and tailored my response to address his specific requirements. He was impressed with my understanding of his needs and the value proposition of our platform.
This interaction taught me the importance of active listening, empathy, and understanding the specific needs of our advisers. It’s not just about promoting our platform; it’s about providing value, building trust, and helping advisers achieve their goals. This lesson stuck with me and continues to shape my approach to building relationships with advisers.
Challenges and Solutions: Every role comes with its challenges. What's a challenge you've faced as a SIC, and how did you overcome it? Any lessons learned?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced since joining INN8 is generating interest in our investment platform. As a more recent entrant in the market, it can be challenging to get financial advisers to agree to meet and learn more about our platform.
To overcome this challenge, I’ve had to be persistent and creative in my approach. This includes highlighting our platform’s innovative features, such as its user-friendly interface, straight-through processing, and competitive pricing.
Personal Growth: In your time at INN8, how have you personally grown, either professionally or personally? Are there any experiences that have shaped you?
Professionally, I’ve expanded my knowledge of the investment industry, developed stronger relationships with financial advisers, and honed my skills in communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively. I have also gained valuable experience working alongside a talented team of professionals who are passionate about innovation and client service.
On a personal level, I have become more confident in my ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity. I have also learned to be more proactive, resilient, and open-minded, which has helped me better cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing industry.
Advice for Future SICs: If you could go back and give advice to yourself when you started as a SIC at INN8, what would it be? What advice do you have for someone aspiring to join the INN8 family?
I would advise future SICs to be prepared to learn quickly and adapt to a fast-paced environment. Building strong relationships with advisers and understanding their pain points is crucial. I would also recommend being proactive in seeking feedback and guidance from colleagues. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and remain open to receiving feedback.
